The New and Improved Organ Pump!
Never fear! Organ Pump is here! The 2009-2010 year will be the best season yet!
Spooky times in little Oberlin, Ohio...
Not to mention the economy! AHH!
by Heather Kirkconnell on Wed October 8th, 2008
The nights are getting longer, which means there's more time for THEM to find you... Keep your doors locked, your windows shut, and whatever you do, don't let them smell your fear.
Organists and Stock Brokers have a lot in common: both are dangerous, likely to make fools of themselves, and POOR! With the build up we've had in September, October is sure to be one scary month! (What is this, a lesson on economics?!) The witches are out, as are goblins, and they're all heading for the Halloween Organ Pump! Yes, my ghouls, it's coming. More like it's plummeting. Down, down, faster and faster. It will be here before you can say "asymptot!" Oh wait... (funny math joke!) SO START GETTING EXCITED ALREADY!! IT'S ORGAN PUMPING TIME!! Where are the "Heather, when's the next organ pump" emails, and the "Heather, what should I wear to the organ pump" calls, and the "Heather, what's an organ pump" freshmen questions... Alas, for all of you who (I know) are just jumping out of your seats with impatience to see me, you shall not, for I am in France. And they don't celebrate Halloween in France. Seriously. It's so lame even my French friends complain about it!
But back to the topic: THEY ARE COMING! AND THEY ARE NOT NICE! Organists from near and far have all descended on Oberlin. Like an octatonic scale. It all began with Jack Mitchener, our new professor (who's actually really nice). I want to take a pause now, to officially welcome Mr. Mitchener. We're really glad to have you heading this haunted ship! (pause over) Others have come as well... some from the scary town of Charleston, SC (I mean, have you been there? It's scary alright!), and others have come from St. Louis and Quebec for the bloodbath! Beware, they look harmless enough, but they're bloodthirsty on the inside.***
So there you have it, folks. It's October, and the Halloween pump is ON! So start sewing your costume (or go naked, doesn't matter much to me, although you might be cold...), planning your escape route (it's suggestion no. 45 in the Zombie Survival Guide), and ignore the howling-it's not wolves, just organists getting ready for the pump.
***I haven't actually met these people, so they could in fact be quite nice!

This semester has been absolutely pump-tastic so far, with stunning performances by all, and more to come as our new members make their debuts. For all of you who have been attending you know what I mean; Joey Ripka with his fantastic Vierne in the first pump, Charlotte Beers with the Bach Fugue in C major, and, well, all the others. We hope you've enjoyed the pumps so far; we certainly have.So now I stand here before you, writing to formally invite you to the Halloween organ pump November 2nd, Midnight, Finney. I won't give anything away but it's not to be missed. So start planning your outfits now, there may be prizes involved!!!
